The Satisfaction Of Building
In an effort to shrink down my studio space a bit and get a more ergonomic desk setup, I've decided to design my own. It's tough to come up with a workspace that fits all my needs. A straight up studio workstation is great for just doing music, but I spend the majority of my time coding, copywriting, and doing graphic design. So I need to get it right. The desk height, an adjustable keyboard tray, space for my rack gear, useable desk space...
After browsing all kinds of designs and setups, I think I've found something that I like the look of and that will work for my general purposes. Since I don't want to waste money on materials, I wanted to make a physical mockup of at least the desktop itself, which is the tricky part. There are some angles and a cutout section right in the middle where I will mount an angled 3U rack box to house my interface and power conditioner.
Getting the angle right and figuring out the measurements has been a challenge. I'm not a carpenter and math doesn't come easily to me. But I'm figuring it out. The good news is that I have an experienced friend who offered to actually build the unit for me. It's just on me to figure out the general specs. So here I am. Building a cardboard mockup. Great success.
